Sukha means “Joy of Life’ in Sanskrit and that is what you will sense in all of Atelier Sukha’s products.

All made out of pure, and natural materials like wood, wool, lokta, linen, cotton and cashmere. Behind these wonderful products there is an even better story. Founders Irene Mertens and Sam IJsbrandy, both designers, travelled to the poorest regions in India and Nepal where they jointly developed the Atelier Sukha product line-up with local communities. Their visits were an instant success with many small handicraft companies now making blankets, cushions, hats, pants, scarfs, mittens, garlands but also special one off items such as a hand braided hammock.

Nepalese women make gorgeous knitting for Atelier Sukha, while men make wooden daybeds with warm quilted blankets. From India there are linen cushions and embroidered plaids, all handmade with an abundance of care and attention. By staying loyal and committing to place regular orders against a fair price Atelier Sukha invests in these local economies, helping to create a better life for the workers and their families.
