At Atelier Sukha, slow fashion is at the heart of everything we do. It is about choosing consciously, pieces that are made to last, produced with care, and worn over time. But most of all, it is about the makers: those who put their knowledge, attention and experience into every piece they create.
Slow fashion honours their time, their skills and the stories they carry. It allows us to share that process, and to value clothing not just for how it looks, but for how it is made.
What you find at Sukha is shaped over time. Not built around seasons or trends, but around relationships, with makers, with materials, with ways of working that resist urgency.
Many of the pieces come from small ateliers or independent brands, often based in Europe. Others travel a little further, but always through hands we know and trust. There is a shared understanding behind them: that making something well takes time, and that time should be visible in the result.
This is where slow fashion extends beyond clothing. It becomes a way of selecting, of curating, of deciding what deserves a place in the store.
For us, slow fashion and fair fashion are closely connected. Clothing should not only be made with attention, but also under the right conditions. We work with brands that value transparency, fair production processes and respectful collaboration with makers. Many of them produce in small batches, often locally or within Europe, always with care for both people and materials.
This approach is also reflected in the ethical fashion brands we work with, including FANT, Raasleela, Skall Studio, Aiayu and Novesta. Each of them works closely with skilled makers or specialised ateliers, where craftsmanship and responsibility go hand in hand.
The collection at Sukha moves between clothing and objects without much distinction. A linen shirt hangs not far from a ceramic bowl. A wool blanket sits beside a row of books. Everything is made to be used.
Materials are chosen for how they feel, but also for how they change. Cotton softens. Linen creases and relaxes. Wood darkens slightly with touch. These are not imperfections, but traces of time, signs that something has been lived with. It is this quality that connects the different pieces in the store.
Sukha has been one of the go-to places for sustainable fashion in Amsterdam for over 14 years. Over time, we have become increasingly selective in the brands we carry — choosing only those that align with our values and way of working. We focus on clothing that is made to last, materials that are chosen with care, and makers who take responsibility for how things are produced. Much of our collection is created in Amsterdam, the Netherlands or elsewhere in Europe. Slow fashion, fair fashion and sustainable fashion are not separate ideas for us. They are part of the same approach: a more thoughtful way of making, choosing and wearing clothing.
