Pleasant Place #9 Dahlia (Dahlia)

€14,00

Pleasant Place: notes on gardening & art.

Pleasant Place promotes the cross-pollination of art and gardening. Collaborations with both experts and artists make Pleasant Place both informative and practical as well as surprising and inspiring. Each issue is dedicated to a single garden related topic: a person, place, plant, phenomena, or technique. As you collect – either all issues or just your favourites – you built your own, personalised garden encyclopedia.

Dahlias are loud, colourful and iconic. This issue guides you through the dahlia’s fascinating and mysterious history, tracing its roots back to Mexico. Of course we take a look at some of the wildest and most wonderful cultivars out there, and there are even some adventurous recipes. Though they are no strangers to failure, we remain definite dahlia devotees!

Including:
A deep dive into dahlias by Joline van Berkestijn, with photographs by Blommers & Schumm and illustrations by Jul Quanouai.

Daunting and dizzying, dahlias have inspired many artists throughout history, from Impressionists to Fauvists to photographers.

Tasty tubers? Yes! Chef Omar Sanchez shares adventurous recipes using dahlia tubers and petals.

Writer Sarah Arnolds explores her own rage and frustration through the elusive blue dahlia, in a short story translated by Michele Hutchison and beautifully illustrated by Melek Zertal.

Landscape architect Armando Maravilla and photographer Pablo López Luz take us on a journey through Mexico City in search of wild dahlias growing in their natural habitat.
